The Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist
Each of these Sacraments helps unite us more closely to the Lord and our brothers and sisters. It is our custom that children entering the third grade be prepared to receive both Sacraments. The first semester is dedicated to preparation for Reconciliation and the second is for the Eucharist. It is our policy that reconciliation is to be received prior to the Eucharist. It is important that we teach the children the concept of sin and error in their lives and the necessity of confronting these issues before they approach the altar to partake in the Eucharist. We will dedicate ourselves in preparing your child to understand the teachings of the Church necessary to partake in both Sacraments. We ask that parents be supportive and share their experiences of their reception of these sacraments as this reinforces their commitment to do the same.
The date and time for the reception will be coordinated with the Director of our CEP and the instructors. This time and date will be published as they are determined.
Often the question arises about the appropriate attire for reception of the Eucharist. It is certainly appropriate for the girls to wear a communion dress with an optional veil, or they can wear their Sunday ‘best’. The boys are to wear a dress suit with dress shirt and tie, or a sports coat with slacks. Dress shoes are required. NO TENNIS SHOES!
We will provide a photographer to take pictures during the actual reception and afterwards with the family. There will be a fee for this service and this is a contract between the family and photographer. We ask that others refrain from taking pictures during the ceremony as this can be distracting to the child and others. You are free to take pictures after the service.
If there are older children who have not received the above Sacraments we will work with the child and family to assure they are prepared. There are always children, who for one reason or another did not receive one or both. It is necessary to contact the CEP Director for assistance.
